Was that Thunder?

I love new technology, who doesn’t? But sometimes new technology isn’t always cool. There’s always one thing that seems kind of pointless. Take this personal lightning detector from Strike Alert for example. This little device tells you when there is a thunderstorm headed in your direction. How great is that? Strike Alert claims that this thing can detect an electrical storm from up to 40 miles away. It has sensors that are able to tell you how far away (or close) the storm is. This is somehow accomplished by the decibel level of the thunder. There is a series of LED lights that indicate the distance. Its priced at $80. It also requires two AAA batteries. I’m not sure if anyone would really want one of these, but it would be nice to know if it really was thunder or not.
