Super Kayak

We all wonder about putting engines in things that usually take awhile to get around with. This time, let’s think about sticking one in a kayak. So, what would you get when you put together an engine, and a kayak? A super fast kayak, obviously. The guys at Top Gear, love that show, raced the jet kayak against a modded off-road vehicle in Iceland, on a lake full of giant ice cubes. The video is nothing short of full fueled-engine entertainment.

Wine Thermometer By Carl Metens

winethermometer.jpg The $40 Wine Thermometer, by Carl Metens, clips on a bottle to measure the temperature within a minute, without the help of batteries or external power. A heat-sensitive band measures the level of chill, while the satin steel wrap lists the optimal drinking temperatures for popular varieties. Given that most of us drink white wine “chilled,” and red wine “room temperature,” this added feature could take your drinking hobby to the next level. Check out the product page for more information.

Tiny Motorcycles, Made Out Of Watches

minimotorcycle.jpg An advertising agent out of Brazil is the master designer behind these amazing miniature motorcycles. Assembled out of watch parts, and bits of other items such as eyeglasses, these motorcycles challenge the ideas of identity, and representation. These motorcycles aren’t for sale, unfortunately.

Self Guided Mini Solar Car

mini_car_big.jpg The Mini Solar Car really defines the word “compact.” Running at a small 33×22mm, it might not fit your whole family, but that is the price for carbon neutrality. As the rest of the world is depending on dying fossil fuels to get them place to place, the power of the Sun will make your car move automatically. You read right. No more gas pedals, or steering wheels. When it’s sunny, you go to work. When it’s not sunny, you don’t go to work. Don’t you wish that’s how it worked now?

Bubble Wrap Finger Toy

bubble-wrap-toy1.jpg I find this very interesting to say the least. If your version of Heaven is endless miles of bubble wrap for your popping pleasure, then the PuchiPuchi Bubble Wrap Toy might be the perfect thing for you. I know I’m not the only one that will take the bubble wrap out of a package that just came in from the mail. From what I can tell, the pocket gadget simulates a feel of popping bubble wrap, while using a tiny speaker to give you that satisfying popping noise. What bubble wrap poppers will find disturbing is that every hundred pops, the gadget bestows the user with a fart, barking dog, door chime, or sexy voice. Sexy voice, huh? Check it out.

Apple Becomes Third Largest Music Retailer In U.S.

itunes_npd1.jpg Yes, Apple has become the country’s third largest music retailer, knocking Amazon aside. With a 10% market share, Apple is right behind the #1 retailer, Wal-Mart, with a 15.8%, and the #2 retailer, Best Buy, with a 13.8%. All findings were recently reported by the NPD group, and are based on their survey of 400,000 people, age 13 and older. If Apple sits right behind the two leader music retailers, will we see Apple number one in the future?

New Ceiling Fan Blade

sycamore_fan.jpg Ever notice how your ceiling fan blades are straight out? Well, it looks like we’ve been doing it wrong for some time now. It turns out that the best design for a fan blade is to bend it into the shape of a seed pod from a Sycamore tree. Spin it at just 70 to 130 revs per minute, and you’ll have the same airflow as a regular fan spinning it’s heart out at twice that speed. You can get these in Australia, but expect this technology to spread around the world before too long. Someday all fan blades will be made this way. Don’t just apply this new technology for ceiling fans, let’s see it on some PC fans as well. Cut the RPMs in half, and we’ll have less noise.

Blu-Ray Disc Rot?

blurayrot.jpg A very interesting read. Over at AVS forums, a few of their members are complaining about a problem with some copies of the The Prestige, disc rot. Those who got the disc rot seem to believe that the rot is occurring in the disc coating. As of right now, the problem seems to be affecting only one thread and one movie. Let’s just hope that this won’t continue onto some other discs as well. If you own Blu-Ray discs, please comment the post and let other readers know how your discs are holding up.
